USA Candle Holders

The 4th of July is right around the corner! What better way to dress up your area than with this quick and easy craft?  American decor is always in style and these candle holders look great indoors and outdoors. They could also be used as vases, utensil holders, or fancy drinking cups.

Supplies:
-2 Hurricane vases
-Blue stars and red stripes burlap ribbon
was purchased from Wal-Mart
-Lace ribbon
-Twine
-Scissors
-Multi purpose adhesive spray

Let's get crafty!
Start out by measuring and cutting the burlap ribbon to fit around the vase. Then lay the burlap ribbon out flat and spray it with the adhesive spray on the non-decorated side. Make sure you cover your table/surface with newspaper so you do not get any glue on it. The adhesive spray is very sticky and if you get it on your hands I recommend using hand sanitizer to remove it. My favorite technique is to lay the vase at the end of the ribbon and simply roll the vase (like a rolling pin). This will help insure the ribbon is straight and centered.

I added lace ribbon to hide the seam. To finish off the candle holder I tied a white yarn ribbon around the vase.

And there you go....  'Merica the land of the free and crafty!

Washi Tape American Flag Card

You'll need:
-8x10 white stock card paper
-Blue construction paper
-Blue and red washi tape (pick a fun design to make it unique)
-Glue Stick
-Scissors

Fold the card stock in half

Cut a 4.5in x 3in blue square using blue construction paper.

Use blue wash tape to cover the square. Don't worry about cutting it to the exact size as the excess tape can be cut off later. I'd recommend leaving it long to ensure it's not too short.

Once the square is completely covered, start making your stripes. You can measure them out or "eyeball" the spacing. I'd recommend 5 stripes depending on the width of the washi tape. Mine weren't perfect but I'd rather live dangerously and free hand the measurements. After the stripes are complete, glue down the square.

The finished product... a flower power American Flag.

The possibilities are endless depending on the washi tape you use. After making the flowered flag, I decided to try some other versions. I went through my tape selection and got really excited when I found red/white plaid tape. These were super fun to make, and only took about 5-10 minutes each.  This would make a great activity for the whole family.

Framed "Let it Be" Print

Music is powerful and has been a form of therapy for me. When I'm in a bad mood at work I listen to songs like pharell's "Happy," and I cheer right up.

My favorite band is the Beatles; I know, I have an old soul.  I usually turn to their music when I need some uplifting.  I feel like many of the Beatles songs are speaking directly to me. After my friend Bryan died, I spent a lot of time listening to music.  The song"Let it Be" helped mend me and my coping during that time in my life.  The lyrics of the song remind me that there is a greater plan for all of us, although we may not know what it is just yet.  You gotta move forward and "let it be".

Now on to the project!

I find myself hoarding frames when I find them on sale.  This frame was from the dollar tree and was originally brown. I painted it light blue with multi purpose paint. I used powerpoint to create the graphics and tested it in the frame with different font sizes until I found the  font/size I liked.  Once that was achieved, I printed it on photo paper to get a better quality print.

My framed lyric project is a great reminder of something that is close to my heart. Find something that motivates you and turn it into a beautiful framed art piece.

Texas Cowgirl Diaper Cake

My girl friend had a cowgirl themed baby shower and I was ecstatic to make this diaper cake. I love when I get to incorporate southern charm into my projects. After all, this is TexMex Crafting ;) If your not a Texan, you could easily make a cowgirl cake without the Texas cut out.

To create the base of the diaper cake I followed this tutorial from Fun Baby Shower Ideas and More.
