Howdy from Texas! Last week my partner in crime, aka my mom and I ventured out to Canton First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. Trade Days is a HUGE flea market that has handmade crafts, antiques, craft supplies, décor, floral arrangements, artwork and alot more. We go several times a year and it’s a great place to pick up unique gifts, project pieces, and home décor. Whenever we take someone new, they always get hooked and return. My favorite section is the antique/ garage sale area. You never know what you're going to find there. It’s always exciting to recycle or upcycle someone elses trash and make something beautiful out of it. I got so many great things this time so I figured I’d share some pictures from our trip and some of my “finds”.
The garage sale section is located in the fields and has a lot of farm fresh finds.
I love antique lanterns and this blue one was calling my name.
My mom and I.
I think I got all my decorating and crafting genes from my mom, and the patients from my dad. My mothers lack in patients is probably why she’s not a good crafter, lol. I remember when I was younger, I used to sit on the floor and make jewelry and my mom would commend my ability to work on a project for hours on end. Together my mom and I make a great pair.
They have several vendors that specialize in wrapping paper and boxes. I got three vintage looking rolls of wrapping paper for Christmas which I cannot wait to use.
I found a new vendor that sells artificial flowers for $1 each or a dozen for $10. My mom got a bunch for the holidays and I can't wait to see what she does with them, she has the best design sense.
This cookbook was $1 and had some pretty interesting receipes in it. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it but I may use the pages for a thanksgiving craft.
This is a fun one... There is a vendor there called "build a cross". They have a bunch of wood letters, crosses, and shapes that you can use for projects. It costs $10 to fill a bag or the letters are .50 each. I got some letters to use for the holidays and they also had wooden ornaments which are pretty cool.
Tips for your first trip to Canton Trade Days:
-Bring comfortable clothes- The place is huge!!
-Bring cash although a lot of vendor do take credit. Parking is usually paid w/ cash
-Bring a wagon, push cart, or you can rent one. You will need something to push all your goodies around in.
-Bring water to hydrate, especially if you go in the summer.
-Click here to get to FMTD's website.
While your there... If you love fiesta dishware I suggest you got to Canton Dish Barn. They have a great selection of Fiesta ware as well as pieces that have slight imperfections that sell for 75% off or more.
If you love flea markets and crafts I highly recommend you check out First Monday Trade Days. They say everything is bigger in Texas and when it comes to this, they ain't lying.
